Discovery Center of Idaho

1987–1989

Junior League of Boise first identified a community need for hands-on science education in Idaho in 1982.
In 1987, League members worked with the City of Boise to secure the Center’s current location at 131 Myrtle Street, developed and curated a 5-year exhibit plan, organized a long-term volunteer plan, and worked with area teachers and other organizations to plan special events in collaboration with schools and industry leaders.
The League oversaw renovations to the Myrtle Street building in 1988.
The Discovery Center of Idaho had a soft opening in the summer of 1988 and a grand opening event in the fall.
Between January and August of 1989, more than 27,000 people visited the Junior League’s Discovery Center of Idaho.
Thirty years later, the Junior League of Boise continues to support the Discovery Center through volunteering and fundraising efforts. View our recent efforts through Project 100 here.
